Dr Peter Floros joins Sydney Children’s Hospital
February 17, 2025
We are excited to announce that Dr Peter Floros has been appointed to the ENT, Head and Neck department at Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick.
Did you know that March is Sleep Awareness Month? It’s a time to highlight the importance of sleep for overall health and well-being, and to raise awareness about sleep disorders and sleep deprivation.
As an ENT Specialist, the most common sleep condition we treat is called Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). OSA is a condition that affects children and adults, with an estimated 5% of Australians affected by it. A further proportion are undiagnosed.
When we fall asleep our muscles relax including those in the upper airway. In children when they have enlarged tonsils and adenoids, these can partially or totally block the airway. Symptoms and signs of OSA include loud snoring, pauses in breathing with gasping or choking, wakefulness, sleeping with mouth open and neck extended, restless sleep and sweating. As OSA disrupts sleep this can lead to daytime tiredness and may cause learning and behavioural problems.
Untreated OSA can also be linked to other serious health issues including obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.

Dr. Peter Floros acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional owners of the land on which we meet and work across Australia; we pay our respects to the elders, past, present and emerging. We encourage our staff and clients to join us wherever they are in Australia by being informed about whose land they are on and paying their respects.
